A Little History…

Why do we call ourselves the Interview Doctor? People often ask us that question, so here’s the story . .

In 2004 the late Carolyn James, a long-time professional recruiter, had a really bad day at the doctor’s office. The doctor kept her waiting for hours. Carolyn steamed and finally confronted the doctor about his rudeness. After ranting, she sent the doctor a bill for her time. She realized that she was a doctor to people looking to fill positions and to people looking to find positions.

She shared this story with her friend Katherine Burik, a human resource executive and consultant. Together, they decided to establish the Interview Doctor, and in 2004, they did.

Carolyn imagined that ‘healthier interviews’ are what we would offer. So the doctor theme (the “Interview Doctor”) and the stethoscope logo became who we are, teaching and coaching and speaking to groups about effective interviewing, resume building, and handling the process of seeking a job in a way that connects well with recruiters, gets you regular looks from human resource executives, and gets you job offers.

In 2009, Dan Toussant, who liked Carolyn and Katherine’s vision for teaching interviewing skills, joined the Interview Doctor, and today, we (Katherine and Dan) pursue The Interview Doctor as partners with a team of coaches to support our clients. We bring expertise, energy, and lots of experience as we help clients find jobs that they love. Where we started was from a vision from our friend Carolyn James, and her passion for ‘healthier interviews.’
