I am in transition. There I said it. Two words with immediate power to define. As if I chose this situation. As if I am making something good out of a bad thing – covering up something potentially embarrassing with a nice, neutral label. I realize it is ironic for a career/interview coach to be in transition but it happens. It is what we do with this situation that makes the difference.
It is hard to leave a job. The people, the relationships, the experience, all matter.
There are many reasons why people are on the market. Even in this economy with double digit unemployment, layoffs do not cover everyone’s story. It is critical that you take the time to prepare your answer when a prospective employer asks, “…So tell me, why are you available?” You would be surprised how often candidates stumble when asked the “obvious” question.
